In about 1893 he bought a clay tile manufacturing plant and sawmill at Elery, Ohio from Franklin and Elizabeth Foster. The first name of the tile company was August Honeck and Son. In those days the use of tile drainage was not wide spread and the business nearly failed.
With business slow and with four children to rear, Mr. Honeck relied mostly on his masonry trade to keep the family going.
The factory manufactured brick and hollow building blocks for the building of houses, barns, etc. , however, the major product was drain tiles.
In the early 1900's August F. gave the business to his sons and it was operated as Honeck Brothers until the death of Karl who was killed in a train accident in 1907-1908. Then August F. and August H. operated the business as August Honeck and Son until August F. died in 1942.
August F. and his youngest son, James operated the plant as August Honeck and Son until August died in 1965.
In 1966 James changed the name to Honeck Tile Company and incorporated in 1970. The manufacture of clay drain tile was stopped in 1972 because of the use of plastic tubing which the company also was producing.1 August F. Honeck applied for a U.
