Dr. A. 1. Crider, Dixon physician died Sunday evening, Dec. 2, 1945 at his home while at the supper table. His health had been failing for some time but had been able to care for his practice up until the time of his death.
Dr. A. J. Crider was born near Freeburg on June 28, 1885, and grew to manhood in that community. He was the eldest son of Thomas Rush Crider and Mary Elizabeth Brandon Crider, both of whom preceded him in death. The attended high school in Vienna and Owensville, afterward teaching school in rural schools of Maries County. Later studying medicine, he entered Barnes Medical School, transferred to the Medical School of St. Louis University and was graduated from the latter on June 10, 1910. He began practice of medicine in Meta and remained there until June of 1913 then moving to Freeburg for several months, later to Brinktown where he remained until August 2, 1919 at which time he moved to Dixon and continued there until his death.
He was married to Miss Clara Otke of Meta and to this union were born Harold N., of Cape Girardeau, Russell J., of St. Louis and Helen Marshall, now residing in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There are five grandchildren, namely: Harold Crier Jr., Jackson Seever Crider, Russell Jackson Crider, Jr. Linda Kay Crider and Thursta Ann Marshall. Also five sisters, namely: Mrs. Florence Griffith, of Vienna, Mrs. Ollie Dekkard, Mrs. Mary Swannard and Mrs. Eva Palmer of St. Louis and Mrs. Maggie Stratman of Dixon and one brother, Thomas R. Crider of Freeburg.
Dr. Crider united with the Dixon Christian Church in October 1921 and remained a member until his death.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Missouri State and Southern Medical Associations and of the Pulaski County Medical Society. He served as a member of the staff at Waynesville General Hospital, was a member of Arlington Lodge No. 436, A. F. & A. M. and also the Dixon Lion Club.
