Born in Neuenkirchen, Germany, May 22, 1828, he emigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen years, landing at New Orleans, whence he went to New Albany, Ind., remaining there only a few years, he returned to New Orleans, and shortly afterwards engaged in the produce commission business. Taking into partnership a fellow countryman, he established the firm of Greve & Wildermann, which will be best remembered by the older merchants of New Orleans as the first to ship produce from that city to Northern markets. He retired from active business in 19??.
He was married twice, his first wife Bernadine Schoenhoff, having died more than forty-five years ago. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Frances Scheele, six daughters, three sons, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren..
Mr. Greve always took an active interest in civic affairs, and was well known for his genial disposition and generosity. He will be buried Wednesday morning under the auspices of St. Joselph Benevolent Association of the Holy Trinity Church, of which he was a charter member, and with the rites of the Catholic Church. .
