J. B. Ragan, son of James and Elizabeth Ragan, was born December 24, 1858 on Spring Creek, this county, and died at his home in the Bend after an extended illness on May 11, 1939 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 16 days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from Union Hill Baptist Church in the Bend, Reverend W. J. Spurgeon officiating and burial was in the Bend Cemetery. Members of the Masonic Lodge assisted at the ceremonies and Undertaker W. C. Birmingham of Vienna had charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ragan was married in 1884 to Mahaly Elizabeth Daniels and to this union were born ten children, nine sons and one daughter. An infant son and a son Robert preceded the father in death. Surviving relatives include the widow; seven sons Bunyan, Hubbard, Oliver, William and George of Vienna, James of Ludlow and Claude of Los Angeles, California; and one daughter Lucy Honse of Vienna; a sister, Ellen Fannon of Vichy; a half-sister Rose Loftis of Cabool; sixteen grandsons, fourteen granddaughters and five great grandchildren. A twin brother Monroe, a brother Will, a half-brother George, a sister Anne James and a half-sister Harriet Roscoe are all deceased. Mrs. Fannon and all the children, except Claude, were present at the funeral, the six sons acting as pallbearers.
Mr. Ragan was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and had kept his membership for a number of years in the Vichy Masonic Lodge. He served this county four terms as assessor. He and Mrs. Ragan spent most of their married life on the farm where he passed away.

The undertaker who handled his arrangements was W. C. Birmingham in Vienna, Maries County, Missouri.2
His funeral service was held on May 13, 1939 at Union Hill Baptist Church, Vienna, Maries County, Missouri, the service was performed by Reverend W. J. Spurgeon the pallbearers included Bunyan Ragan, Hubbard Ragan, Oliver Ragan, William Ragan, George Ragan and James Ragan.2 John B. Ragan was buried on May 13, 1939 in The Bend Cemetery in Maries County, Missouri.2
